Abingdon-Avon High School joins national PBS initiative to build next generation of public media journalists
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Abingdon, IL (September 13, 2018) - Abingdon-Avon High School announced its participation in the PBS NewsHour Student Reporting Labs program, “Learning to make videos for the schools broadcast is the first step,” said teacher and program sponsor Sarah Horner. “We then, with the help of PBS, learn to create videos to show to a national audience. Students will learn to write, film and produce news stories just like the professional journalists.” This summer, Mrs. Sarah Horner spent time in the Washington, DC and Shirlington, Virginia areas at the PBS National studios learning the craft of broadcast journalism to better instruct her students. Horner isn’t new to journalism and has brought the love of the profession into the AAHS classroom. Students, when not busy creating videos for PBS, work on videos and commercials for their own Atown Newsroom broadcast, known as the F5 Weekly and the Tornado Watch Facebook live. You can follow the students at AAHS on social media; Atown Newsroom on Facebook, atown_newsroom on Instagram, @AtownNewsroom on Twitter or find us on Snapchat at Atown Newsroom!
