This year we asked each new staff member to share a little of their personal history with us. We asked them where they grew-up, went to high school and college, why they became teachers, and a few questions to provide a little insight on them outside of just teaching.
Mrs. Hayden is our new 6th grade Social Studies teacher at AAMS. She grew up in Maquon, IL and graduated from Spoon River Valley in 1988, and then from Western Illinois University with a BS in Education in 1993.
She worked at SR-Valley as a 5th-6th teacher from 1994-2004. After the birth of her 2nd child, she and her husband decided that she would put her career on hold to stay home and raise her 2 children Will(16) and Liz(14).
Now that her kids are teenagers, she has returned to teaching full time. She comes to us from B-PC.
In her “spare” time, she enjoys reading historical fiction, creating fairy gardens, and going to her kids’ theatre and sporting events.
Favorite Food: Mexican food
She is crazy about her Dachshund, Peanut.
A little known fact about Mrs. Hayden: "I am not the first person in my family to have taught at Avon. My grandmother, Geneva Thurman, was the Music Director her in the 60’s. She was famous for her yearly madrigal dinners! Maybe some of you remember her. I am excited about beginning my new adventure as a middle school teacher and I look forward to getting to know everyone from A-TOWN!"
