Letter from the Superintendent Dear Abingdon-Avon Stakeholders, On April 1st, our school district will ask for your support to approve an 11-cent property tax levy. This levy will generate $6M in revenue, which will be invested in improving our school buildings and grounds over the next two years, enhancing the learning environment for our students. As many of you know, we are already making significant strides in improving our facilities. We are finishing up an addition at Hedding Grade School and an extensive remodel at our Avon Campus. The Abingdon-Avon School Board has worked diligently to ensure that no additional property taxes were required to fund these projects, relying instead on district reserves, ESSER funds, and bonds from the one-cent sales tax. This careful planning has allowed us to make great progress without asking for more from taxpayers. Now, with the proposed levy, most of the funds will be dedicated to connecting the two buildings at Avon. This new connection will not only improve the flow of the campus but will also provide a secure, centrally located entrance, ensuring the safety of our students and staff. Additionally, this space will include much-needed office areas for administration, nurse, and counselor, as well as a media center and remodeling of the band and choir room. Currently, our principal and library are using spaces that were originally intended as classrooms, so this new area will significantly improve the efficiency and functionality of our school. The remainder of the funds will support several smaller but equally important projects, including replacing the high school parking lot surface. The high school is a hub for our community, hosting numerous events each year. Over the past 25 years, the parking lot has been patched and sealed numerous times, but it is now at a point where it needs to be completely resurfaced. This is crucial to maintaining the area's safety and usability. These construction projects are all part of our larger commitment to improving the learning environment for our students. Providing safe, modern, and well-maintained facilities is essential for ensuring that both current and future students at Abingdon-Avon have the best possible experience. Our children deserve top-notch schools, and these projects are a vital step in achieving that goal. Strong schools are a reflection of a strong community, and your support for this levy will help us continue to build a brighter future for our students and our community as a whole. We sincerely appreciate your consideration and hope you’ll vote on April 1st. Regardless of the outcome, we remain neighbors, friends, and partners in making our community stronger. Bill Walters Superintendent Abingdon-Avon CUSD #276
